“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.“
— 1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
Paul knew something we often forget. It’s not enough to talk about faith—we have to live it. He compared the Christian life to a race. Runners train hard. They don’t just show up and expect to win. They push through pain, hunger, and exhaustion. They stay focused because they know the prize is worth it.
Faith works the same way. It’s not just believing in Jesus. It’s daily choices, small and big, to obey Him. Paul says he disciplines his body. That means he doesn’t let his feelings, temptations, or bad habits take over. He trains himself to do what is right, even when it’s hard.
Why? Because he doesn’t want to tell others about Christ but then fall away himself. He wants to finish strong. He wants to stay faithful.
This verse is a reminder. We can’t get lazy. We can’t let sin creep in while we’re telling others to avoid it. We have to keep going, keep growing, and keep fighting to stay close to God.
The prize isn’t just for those who start the race. It’s for those who finish. Stay disciplined. Keep running. Heaven is worth it.
Personal Prayer
Lord, You have called me to run this race of faith. I don’t want to grow lazy or distracted. I don’t want to tell others about You while neglecting my own walk. Keep my heart close to You.
Help me to discipline myself—to say no to sin, to resist temptation, and to stay focused on what truly matters. Give me strength when I feel weak. Give me self-control when my desires pull me the wrong way.
I want to finish strong. I want to stay faithful. I don’t want to be disqualified. Keep me steady, Lord. Train my heart, mind, and body to follow You in all things.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
